Cadmatic released the first set of WebAPIs for the 3D Model databases sometime from 2020 onwards. Since the first release, there has been significant enhancements in terms of the scope of coverage of 3D Model Object Types that can be accessed through the WebAPIs.

Cadmatic WebAPI endpoints for equipment, catalogs, COS Objects , model queries, can be seen at https://docs.cadmatic.com/webapi/2024T3/Content/Topics/WebAPI_reference.html. There is also an inbuilt "Swagger" App provided with Cadmatic along with the WebAPI application that can enable users to have a feel for the endpoints and check them out.

As the size of the 3D Model keeps getting larger, so do the responses to the WebAPI Queries, which, has limitations due to array size and some other factors by the receiving application. Also, during the actual process of API Calls, it is possible that there can be some impact on the loading of the cadmatic server processors due to multiple tasks being undertaken simultaneously. Thus it is ideal to enable external access to WebAPIs only through enterprise level PLM Systems or other platforms with full capabilities for coding and controlling the limit of the Cadmatic WebAPI responses.

Further, enterprise applications such as PLM Software are provided with large vaults database for storage and retrieval. This in conjunction with typical PLM functionalities such as Product Engineering, Program Management, Requirements and Change Management, Technical Documentation and Process Plans, will ensure highly efficient reuse of Cadmatic data. From the perspective of the end users, dashboards will be available to easily access and analyse the data in the Shipyard. Cadmatic is also offering eShare, a web browser based application that is directly integrated to the 3D Model, thus enabling markups and issue management etc.

Thus it is now upto the Shipyards to embark on a transformation of how they may have been managing Design data until now, and ride on to the bandwagon of Cadmatic WebAPIs with integrated eShare and PLM Systems.
